Stabilizers are components you can place on your PCB or on your top plate to stabilize a large key. When pressing down on a key, you usually apply force straight onto it, which transfers it straight onto the underlying switch. However, with a large key, chances are that you'll apply force off-center, which causes the switch to be pressed at an angle. This causes additional friction, which affects the feel and longevity of your switch.

A stabilizer distributes the force when you press a key, so that the stem of the switch always presses downward, instead of slightly off-center. For many, this improves the feeling of the switch and prolongs the lifetime of the switch, since less physical contact is made between the stem and the housing.

Stabilisers can be used with keys that are sized 2u (2 units, so as wide as two normal keycaps combined) and up.

To use a stabiliser, your kit needs to be compatible with it. The product page will tell you whether you're able to use a stabiliser, and which kind of stabiliser you should get.
