This article applies to you if you are a resident of the 🇬🇧 United Kingdom.
Splitkb.com is based in the Netherlands, Europe. We are VAT registered with the United Kingdom's government, Her Majesty Revenue and Customs (HMRC). This means that in most cases, you'll be able to order with us like you were used to before the Brexit, without any hassle.
Orders with a value below 135GBP
If you place an order with a value below 135GBP, we will add VAT (value added taxes) to your order, which you will pay to splitkb.com. The package will move through customs without additional fees and levies.
The taxes are applied during checkout automatically. If you are charged VAT, then the additional import fees will not apply when your package moves through customs.
Orders with a value above 135GBP
If you place an order with a value above 135GBP, we will not charge VAT (value added taxes) to your order.
The taxes are removed during checkout automatically. They may show in the cart screen, but will be removed before you finalize the purchase. Only the purchase amount itself and the shipping fees will be charged to your payment method of choice.
Once your package crosses the border, you will usually face import fees and taxes. These will encompass 20% of the order value in VAT, 2.5% customs duty fees, and a handling fee which for Royal Mail would be 8GBP.
As an example, for an order with a value of 150GBP, you'd face additional import costs of 41,75GBP. For an order with a value of 300GBP, this would be 75,50GBP.
Splitting the shipping of a large order into multiple smaller ones usually isn't worthwhile, as the Royal Mail processing fee is usually less than the shipping costs would be.
The amounts shown are examples based on the information in the article Tax and customs for goods sent from abroad from gov.uk. They are an indication of what to expect, and may not match the final billed amounts by the shipping carrier.
