What is Halcyon?

Like a normal split keyboard, but made for ease of use.

How do I choose switches and keycaps?

Switches are the mechanisms which you press to type. They're what makes a mechanical keyboard mechanical, conventional keyboards have a rubber sheet that spans across all keys, which can't be customised. With mechanical keyboards, you can choose from a large variety of switches to fit your preference.

Halcyon is the name of this product series at splitkb.com. Based on the success of the Aurora Series, we set out to develop a new set of standards for preassembled keyboards. All Halcyon keyboards share the same set of features:

  • They don't need any soldering, all common options come presoldered.
  • They come with hot-swap sockets for switches, so you can easily choose and swap your switches.
  • They have RGB underglow and per-key RGB.
  • They use USB C to connect the halves to one another, and between the keyboard and your computer or other device.
  • You can expand their functionality using modules, without soldering.

Next to that, they also share the same technical specifications, such as having a RP2040 controller with 16MB of flash memory, supporting full ESD protection on both the USB data lines as well as all controller pins, and having a cold-swappable controller. The latter allows you to replace or upgrade the controller with another one in the future.
