Setting the VIK voltage selector

For this module you won't need to touch the VIK voltage selector switch, it can be on either 5V or NC. The 5V is not connected on the module.

Installing the battery board

To install the battery board you will need the included 1.5 mm Allen key, two 6 mm spacers, two 12 mm hex screws and two small nuts. While the coin cell battery board is pictured here, the steps will be the same for the LiPo battery board.

Start by lifting the gray little tab of the FFC connector on the controller with the non-conductive tool.

Info: If you have already installed a top plate and switches it may be easier to remove the controller before inserting the FFC cable in to the controller. You can reinstall the controller after attaching the cable.

Insert the flat cable with the blue part sticking up. Push the cable in as far as possible in to the connector.

Lower the tab back down with the non-conductive tool. You can lightly pull on the cable to see if it's in securely.

Insert the 12 mm long hex screws through the bottom of the keyboard.

Using a bit of tape, temporarily secure the screws.

Add the 6 mm spacers on top.

Then add the small nuts to the top. Screw it in so that only a tiny part sticks out above the nut.

The screw itself should only come out of the nut slightly as pictured below.

Installing the module

You will need your keyboard with the battery board prepared, the encoder module, the wide flat cable, a 6 mm spacer, 10 mm hex screw, one small nut and the included 1.5 mm Allen key (not pictured here). You will also need a non-conductive tool to open and close the VIK connector. This can be a spudger, guitar pick, plastic screwdriver, your fingernail or something similar.

Start by preparing the encoder board. Similarly to the battery board, you will need to insert the 10 mm hex screw through the top screw hole, making sure it aligns with the keyboard spacer. For the left keyboard half you will need to use the left hole and for the right keyboard half, the right hole.

Add the spacer and nut similarly as the other screws.

Now position the module next to the keyboard.

Insert the cable through the hole in the keyboard and push it through all the way until the module roughly lines up with the screw holes.

Hold the nut in place while tightening the screw with the 1.5 mm Allen key. You can either hold the nut directly or apply pressure to the module at the points indicated by the arrows to prevent the nut from rotating. Repeat this for the other screw.

Info: This step can be a little fiddly. The nut may lock against the module spacer (similar to a jam-nut effect) while tightening. If it binds, do not force it. Back off slightly, re-seat the parts, and try again until it engages cleanly.

Rotate your keyboard. Using the same method, but this time by putting pressure from the bottom of the keyboard, tighten the screw in place. Now you can also tighten the screw on the bottom of the keyboard.

Insert the cable in to the keyboard.

You've now successfully installed the battery board and encoder module! You can now continue with the build guide.

Installing the encoder knob

Warning: Install the cover first before installing the encoder knob if you bought a full module cover. It's best to come back to this step when you've fully assembled the keyboard.

You will need your keyboard, an encoder knob and the included Allen key from your encoder.

Put the encoder knob on top of the encoder shaft. Make sure to raise it a couple of millimeters higher. Otherwise the press function will not work of the encoder.

Info: You may not be able to put the knob on top of the shaft. This can be because the set screw is screwed in too far from the factory.

Take the Allen key and screw the set screw back until it is flush with the rest of the knob

Tighten the set screw using the included Allen key.
